Probing for Healthy Gums
Your bone and gum tissue should fit snugly around your teeth like a turtleneck around your neck . There is a natural space that we call a pocket at the place where gums and teeth meet. This space normally runs between 1-3mm deep. When supporting tissue and bone is destroyed, these "pockets" get deeper and more difficult to keep clean which in turn makes then deeper! Eventually, if too much bone is lost, the teeth get loose and eventually need to be extracted.
